“Behold, the wonderful world of birds - nature's favourite flying mammal - in all its glory. Wingspan doesn't skimp one bit at showing you just how beautiful these creatures can be and comes with an amount of eggs so large that it can only mean that those one hundred and seventy bird cards have been getting up to no good in your brand new board game box.”

“Imagine a board game inspired by the natural lives of birds. That's the premise of Wingspan, an award-winning game designed by Elizabeth Hargrave. It's been lauded for its scientific accuracy.”

“Wingspan is famously pretty; the watercolor bird paintings are beautiful, while the boards and components are a pastel rainbow. Tiny plastic eggs you'll use in-game are a highlight, as is a cardboard dicetower made to look like a birdfeeder.”

There Will Be Games, MasonSokolArticle

“Wingspan is a fairly straightforward engine building game, in which you play cards which help you get better resources, which let you play more cards all while scoring points along the way. If that sounds boring, that's because this isn't a game that will sell itself on innovation. Wingspan intends to sell itself on production and execution. I am happy to report that both are incredibly well done.”

I totally understand the hype about this game and I can see how it can be brought about to non-gamers like I want to play this with my parents right so my parents will play games they're not huge gamers but they'll play some games with us and I feel like this is definitely one of those games to where they would enjoy playing and not realize that they're playing a gamer game.

Space-Biff!, Dan ThurotArticle

“Wingspan, which I've always had a fondness for, requires some degree of acceptance. You're arranging its avian wildlife into three rows that represent... sanctuaries? Bird-watches? Meals? I couldn't tell you. By contrast, Wyrmspan settles into a fiction of carving dragon nests into a primeval mountain. You feed the beasts, fill their hoards, raise their hatchlings. It's every bit as pleasant and appealing as Wingspan, but heftier and more established.”

“Despite being a competitive game, it's is all about co-operation – building a new community by welcoming new people to your village, and then finding ways for them to help each other, with greater rewards for all the more co-operation you encourage.”

“As you might have gathered, Wingspan is a moderately complex game, certainly moreso than most of its peers who've made the jump into wider popularity. But it's clear from the success of the game that its delightful components and appealing theme are more than enough to get many players to take the plunge. And, once there, they're won over by the absorbing and addictive strategies on offer.”

The best thing about this game is when you build a good chain of birds and can activate all their effects.
