The Verdict
based on 16 reviews
“I cannot praise this title enough as it set a new, very high bar for what an area control game needs to be. If you like dudes on a map, beautiful, HUGE minis, or just Lovecraftian lore in general, you will not regret checking Cthulhu Wars out!”
“It's everything works fundamentally well. I have pretty much no qualms with it other than I suppose people that don't want a big thick expensive game probably aren't going to want this game. But for me, it is a knock out of the park.”(17:19)
“My number two is Cthulhu Wars. I freaking love this game, this is my favorite territory control game with asymmetrical player powers, it just is.”
“And I do love this game. The fact that the game is going to just be huge and epic and beautiful on top of the fact that the game is just a blast to play is the having your cake and eating it too, completely and totally.”(44:57)
“Cthulhu Wars ended up being just as exciting and fun as I was hoping when I first laid eyes on those giant sized miniatures. From the easy to learn rules to the well balanced asymmetrical game play, every part of Cthulhu Wars resonated with me as both a gamer and a fan of the Mythos.”
“Cthulhu Wars is the best because it takes all of the systems that we collectively love about troops on a map games and it fine-tunes them to this perfect degree.”
“We're both pretty big fans of it. I don't really have a bad thing to say about it, it's, it's pretty, it's pretty great. Oh, the only bad thing is the high price tag, yeah, the price which we admit is worth it.”(19:02)
“I recommend it, but only if you're prepared to see it for what it is. It's a great game in a great big box filled with unnecessarily great big things at a great big price. I love it!”
“Simply speaking this game is phenomenal. If you like asymmetry, area control, combat, or Lovecraft you need to find a way to try this game.”
“I think the gameplay is definitely solid and definitely worth the time spent playing the game. Absolutely. So, anyway, that's my takeaway.”(24:10)
“And you're looking for an area control game with those kind of mechanics, I can definitely recommend Cthulhu Wars, especially if you can afford the 200 plus dollar price tag.”(15:47)
“I'm recommending this game, but at the same time it's hard for me to say you should go out and buy a $200 game.”(9:26)
