Azure is an abstract strategy game of flow and positioning set in Asian mythology. Players compete across four different colored areas for points and the favor of the Four Auspicious Beasts, utilizing straight-line synergies and card resources to place stones and cut off the power flow of their opponents.
The Verdict
based on 10 reviews
“Of my favorite Bitewing games that I've ever played. This might be second behind Zuvdus now, and I don't say that lightly.”(17:33)
“Rather than expose the constraints of this admirably small design, each subsequent play has revealed greater pleasures.”
“For a quick game (15 to 20 minutes around here), there are a lot of interesting decisions to be made.”
“Small little nitpicks cuz this game is amazing. I would be absolutely shocked if this isn't in my top five two-player games of the year at the end of the year.”(13:58)
“All these things together make this such a brilliant game, it's one of my favorites from theirs, it gives me a little bit of a feeling of Splendor.”(18:25)
“Like I said, I was more leerary on this one, having a lot of bad prior experience with these sort of detached abstracts, but this is the first one since maybe Santorini, another mythic dueler that really had me on the edge of my seat and wanting to play more and more.”(5:50)
“Overall, Azure is a great little abstract game! It's quick, too, which I appreciate: every turn you're making progress towards the end of the game, and while there's back-and-forth between players, you're never able to force a player backwards or undo a ton of progress.”
“So, I'm going to come in at a four out of five. I'm having a lot of fun with this one and definitely recommend it.”(12:25)
“This is a great abstract two-player abstract game that I highly recommend. If you like quick game two-player games, this is one you should definitely pick up. If you like tactical games, this is, you know, you're really going to enjoy this.”(8:21)
“Even contrasted with the other Benjamin/Gilbert abstracts, Mandala and Patterns and Tic Tac Trek, Azure is the one I’m least likely to return to. It’s pretty, it’s smart, it leaves me chilly.”
